How do I maintain and protect tiles?
Why should we protect tiles?
Whether indoors or outdoors, tiles are subject to a great deal of wear and tear. Between stains, dust and damp, tiled surfaces can quickly become worn and dirty over the years. That’s why it’s vital to maintain and protect this surface.
Causes of damage to tiles
The reason tiles are so prone to damage is that they are constantly being walked on and many elements will wear away at this surface:
- Tasks related to household incidents. These can be traces of grease, mud, food, etc.
- Moisture in a bathroom, kitchen or poorly ventilated room will soak into the tiles and clog the joints
- Wear due to mechanical abrasion. This could be due to regular vacuuming, mopping or simply people walking around the room.
- Deposits of joint laitance caused by tiling work
All these factors, taken together, can damage tiles if no protection is applied.
How can I protect my tiles?
To protect tiles from all these factors, Groupe Berkem has developed the SARPAP range.
Groupe Berkem’s SARPAP range
SARPAP is a range of protective solutions whose properties include preventing infiltration and soiling, and making it easier to clean a wide range of surfaces, including tiles.
This solution can be applied to low-porosity tiles such as marble or sandstone, but also to very porous tiles such as cement tiles or terracotta.
How are the products in the SARPAP range applied?
Groupe Berkem’s SARPAP products can be applied in two different ways:
- Film deposition: deposits a protective film on the surface of materials, giving them a satin finish and providing them with anti-stain and anti-wear properties
- By impregnation: the formula is incorporated into the pores of the material, giving an invisible or waxed appearance and stain-resistant properties, saturating pores and waterproofing surfaces.
